Manage Your Log on Information
As I get older, I find it harder to remember certain things like names and dates and why did I come into this room again? It is especially challenging to recall all of those passwords and pincodes we need to use in this new world of information and security. When I think about all of the numbers and passwords I have in my head, it is staggering. Now that I am building Internet businesses from home, my income depends on having ready access to my log on information. There is nothing more exasperating (and embarassing) than forgetting a password or user id and have to ask that it be sent to me. I imagine the help desk people saying, "Didn't this guy just ask for his password last week? He must really be getting senile." I realized I could use some help in managing my log on information. I decided to try a software called Logonce. I downloaded it from my IAHBE site. That is International Association of Home Business Entrepreneurs. I strongly recommend this group as a resource, by the way. The Logonce software downloaded in a few minutes. It placed a small unobtrusive tool bar on my Internet Explorer. I first set up all of my sites with passwords. I just put in the log on information and hit "record logon" on the toolbar. Then I had a list of all of the sites under the LogLinks tab on the toolbar. I liked being able to access all of my sites from this list. The software fills in the log on information you have stored there, making for easy access. The software gives you the option of storing the information on their server or on your computer. In their FAQ section, they acknowledge that Internet Explorer has a similar feature of filling in the log on information. The difference with Logonce is that you can access the information on any computer such as at an Internet cafe. Also you can protect your log on information from the prying eyes of other users on your home computer (assuming they do not have your Logonce password). Should you get Logonce? I would recommend it if you have many different passwords and want an easy way to manage them. I like the convenience and peace of mind that I do not have to rely on my memory to recall this critical information. It may not be for you. But I would say try it out and see what you think.
